VPP compatibility by battery

VPP Plan COmparison

Which VPPs will your battery work with?

If you want to make more from your home battery, joining a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) can offer added rewards. We’ve reviewed the major energy retailer’s VPP offers and, for each battery/inverter brand, listed the VPPs that are generally compatible. This is your quick guide to which brands are best supported, and which VPPs to shortlist.

You’ll want to check the specific list of battery and inverter models on the retailer’s website, as not every model may be compatible, plus models regularly change. Some retailers require households to provide a list of components, including model and serial numbers, to confirm eligibility for their VPP.

For a comparison of energy retailers’ current VPP offers, go here. For each VPP, you’ll find a summary of essential information, including signup and ongoing credits, feed-in tariff and rates, annual battery use, battery reserve retained for households and more.

My battery isn’t listed. Can I join a VPP?

There are more than 60 battery brands available in Australia. The inverter may be key if your battery brand isn’t on the list. The inverter controls the battery, and some VPPs may be able to support compatible inverter brands managing a different battery brand. Of course, any solar battery can be used on standard retailer plans, and access general feed-in tariffs. Amber will accept any battery; however, automation is only available with the 26 compatible brands. Outside of this, the households must schedule their battery charging and discharging to take advantage of exports at peak rates.
